Which session should I choose?

MCNS offers a number of sessions and enrollment, tuition payment, and program options to provide families with unusual flexibility throughout the year.

During the academic year (from early September until mid-June), families may choose half day, extended day, and full day options:

The Morning Half Day Program is in session from 8:30 AM until 12:30 PM five days per week.  Arrangements can be made for children whose parents wish a PM option to attend a three and one-half hour session from 1:30 to 5:00 PM up to five days per week.  Children enrolled in the afternoon will participate in classroom and enrichment activities similar to those of the morning half day session. Families interested in an afternoon option can get further information from the office.

During the academic year we offer two longer day options:

  • 1. Extended Day Session from 8:30 AM until 3:30 PM
  • 2. Full Day Session from 8:00 AM until 5:30 PM

Families can combine the AM Half Day, Extended Day, and the Full Day sessions to create a custom program that may better fit a non-standard work schedule, the only restriction being that a child must be enrolled in at least the five-day-per-week Half Day Session.   For families who need longer days every day of the week, either the Extended Day or the Full Day is available.

All of the sessions include several payment options, from one payment up to twelve payments per year.   Families who opt for fewer and larger payments receive small discounts.

The Summer Program (from late June through August) includes the following options:

  • 1. The Morning Half Day Session from 8:30 AM until 12:30 PM
  • 2. The Extended Day Session from 8:30 AM until 3:15 PM
  • 3. The Full Day Session from 8:00 AM until 5:30 PM

Enrollment in the summer is by the week: families can enroll children for any number of weeks, from one up to the entire summer.   In addition, all three summer program sessions are available as partial week options, from one to four days, as well as five days per week.

2018-2019 Academic year

The school is accepting applications for the 2018-2019 academic year. ** See new early admission policy below.

Additionally, applications are welcome for the limited seats still open for the 2017-2018 academic year

Why Pick MCNS?

Parents see why other families made the decision to enroll their children in our school.

The school accepts applications for children from 2 years through 5 years at the time of enrollment.  We recommend that applications (for programs beginning in September of the following year) be submitted during the first week of September (but not before September 1st).  Applications usually are processed on a “first come, first-served” basis; but preferences are given to those for children of families affiliated with Columbia University, Medical Center, or to those for siblings.  It is important to remember that submitting an application does not guarantee admission into the school.

The second step in the application process is the school visit. These visits, which do not include an interview, are private tours of the school for each family with our Admissions Coordinator. The tours typically occur at either 9:30 or 10:30 on weekday mornings when classes are in session, offering the family the opportunity to see the school "in action." Tours are scheduled beginning in late October or early November and continue through mid-February. Please note that the date of the visit may not reflect the order in which the application was received nor does it have any impact on acceptance.

The Notification and Parent Reply Dates conform to the regulations of the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Great New York (ISAAGNY) of which the school is a member.   These dates usually are in late February or early March of the academic year prior to enrollment.

The application packet for MCNS is available online.  Forms may be downloaded, completed, and submitted to the school electronically.

The tuition schedule is available for download. Additionally, a summary of current tuition rates is available on FAQ.
