Holidays may or may not be acknowledged; but when they are, the teachers and children explore and celebrate them in a manner which de-emphasizes sectarian religious beliefs or commercial hype. Instead, focus is placed on seasonal or cultural themes and traditions as they relate to the children and their experiences in and out of school. Parents are encouraged to share their own ethnic cultural events or holidays with individual classes as a way of enhancing the school's program. Out-of-neighborhood trips are a part of the school year as well.

MCNS encourages parents to celebrate children’s birthdays in school and to participate in the events.  These birthday celebrations can be used as opportunities to share families’ special cultural activities, experiences, treats (i.e., songs, food, clothing, etc.) with the classes.
